College Mascot Logo Contest

The Falcons mascot is a great source of school pride and spirit!!! Help us update the image to take SCC Falcons into the future! The Athletics Department invites you to submit your original artwork for the Mascot Logo Contest.  Deadline to submit artwork is Monday, April 2, 2013 at 5:00pm.  The winner will receive a $50 Barnes and Noble gift card, season pass to all athletic games meets, and contests, and recognition for designing the Solano College Mascot Logo which may be used on team uniforms, merchandise, web and print media, and across the campus!!!  Here is your chance to leave your legacy with Solano College and support the Athletics Department  with team spirit and pride!

Drop-In Tutoring Now Available for Math and English at the Vacaville and Vallejo Centers

Specific daytime hours posted at the front desk and outside the learning labs on each campus where drop-in tutoring takes place. No appointments needed. For more information, stop by the main campus Tutoring Center located in the Student Services Building 400 Rooms 437/438.

The Tutoring Center services are FREE and open to all students enrolled in the course for which assistance is requested. Peer tutoring is available for most courses offered at SCC.

Social Science 053, a Civil Rights Travel Course

Solano College will offer Social Science 053, a Civil Rights Travel Course, during the summer of 2013, for the fifth  time.  Students who previously completed the course report that it was “the trip of a lifetime” and  “a transformational experience.”  We have developed an exciting, educational itinerary for the 2013 Civil Rights Travel Course. The course brochure and detailed information are attached to this email.

The course and tour will provide an overview of the United States Civil Rights movement and  students will travel to places significant to the Civil Rights Movement in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee. Some instruction which will include a panel of Civil Rights Movement Veterans will be held on the beautiful campus of Jackson State University in Mississippi.

During this nine-day course, participants will visit landmarks of the United States Civil Rights movement including, historic sites, museums, centers and educational institutions.  This guided tour will provide opportunities for learning about the people and events that began the non violent movement for freedom and equality within the United States of America.

Tour highlights include:  Martin Luther King Birth Home and Center,  Atlanta University Center, Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, Sixteenth Street Baptist Church, Rosa Parks Museum, The National Voting Rights Museum, Dexter Avenue Baptist Church, Tuskegee University, Tuskegee Airman Museum, the Edmund Pettus Bridge, Medgar Evers Museum, Fannie Lou Hamer Historic Sites,  Southern Poverty Law Center, Civil Rights Memorial, The Mississippi Delta, Civil Rights Museum Memphis, Slave Haven – Memphis and the Alex Haley Birth Home in Tennessee.  Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to hear from Veterans of the Civil Rights Movement.

Travel dates for 2013 are June 20th – June 28th.    The cost is $1,695.00 based upon quadruple occupancy additional occupancy rates are available.  Please see  attached brochure for more information. This price includes roundtrip airfare from Sacramento, lodging, most meals, ground transportation and entrance fees.   This course is suitable for students of all ages, the oldest student in 2010 was 80 +!  Please review the attached documents for additional information and details.  If you have questions or desire additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me.   Feel free to share this infomation with others who may be interested.
