Greetings from the new MESA and Student Dev. Director, Dr. Jose Ballesteros

Monday, August 26th, 2013

Hello Everyone,

I hope you all have had a great summer and are looking forward to the upcoming semester.  Mostafa Ghous has taken on a great opportunity at Berkeley City College and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.  I will be serving as the Interim MESA Director at Solano Community College and look forward to working and building relationships with all of you, so please feel free to drop by and say hello.
The open door policy will remain, so feel free to come in and introduce yourself, chat and discuss any way that we enhance your MESA and Solano Community College experience.  My schedule is a bit erratic at the moment as I will also be serving as the Interim Director of Student Development, but I will usually be in the MESA office in the morning.
Please keep a look out for e-mails from Dena Hudson and I as we prepare for the upcoming semester.  There will be several e-mails regarding volunteer opportunities, tutoring, MESA announcements…etc. that everyone should read to stay current with events at the MESA center.  We will all function as a MESA Family, and if we have each others support and guidance, we will be able to accomplish great things.
Take care and I look forward to seeing you all during the next few weeks.

MCCP Math Challenge

Monday, March 11th, 2013

Hello MESA Students!

It’s time again for the Annual Statewide MESA Math Challenge!!

Here’s a pdf with info: (MESA Math Challenge 20131 )

MESA students from community college campuses statewide will be competing. Here’s a chance to test your math skills! Awards will be given for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams.  Students with the top three individual scores from each region will be presented with a certificate and medal. Each college will have 1 team of 5 students or more.  Students will however take exams on an individual basis.

Math Professor, Carlos Esteve will be administering the Math Challenge exams for Solano College MESA students. He can do it on:

Wed., March 20;

Monday, March 25; or

Wed., March 27

Between 3-5pm in  Room 1521.

If those times do not work out, he could also do it on a Tuesdays or Thursdays starting at 5:00 pm however, he would need to find a classroom in the math building open during those times.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU’RE INTERESTED AND IF SO, WHAT TIMEFRAME WOULD WORK BEST FOR YOU.  A sign-up sheet will also be provided in the MESA Center.
As an FYI, Professor Esteve is providing a link below to the amaytc contest site for the amaytc test which some Solano students recently took.  The site includes copies of previous test with answers.  The amaytc test is similar in type to the MESA challenge test, so you can look it over to get a feel for the type of questions that are asked on the challenge test.
