It’s a sad time for us: Thank you and Goodbye from Mostafa Ghous

Sunday, August 4th, 2013

I have handed in my resignation after 11+ years here at Solano Community College. I have accepted the Director of Campus Life and Leadership Development position at Berkeley City College. It is with both sadness and excitement that I write this letter. My last day at Solano Community College will be August 8th.

I have enjoyed working with the best students in my career,
and I will miss you all. Solano Community College has given
me a wonderful experience. I could not ask for a better group of students.

During my time here, I’ve grown personally and professionally. I will miss you all, but I feel that it is time for a new challenge and experience.

It has been my great pleasure working with you and I thank you all for the opportunity to do so. I wish you all
continued success in your future endeavors.

I hope you will visit me at Berkeley City College.

Sincerely,
Mostafa Ghous

Cal Day and Transfer Prep

Saturday, April 13th, 2013

Cal Day which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 20th.  Who should attend Cal Day?  Any of your students who are considering UC Berkeley.  Even those who are not might change there minds after attending this community wide event.  There is truly something for everyone.  http://calday.berkeley.edu/index.php

Second, I’d like to introduce a new program that we are launching this summer called T-PREP Transfer Pre-Engineering Program

Modeled after the successful PREP program for first year students, T-PREP will be launched in Summer 2013 and will be a summer program offered to newly admitted Berkeley Engineering transfer students.  The transition from a community college to a major research university can be challenging and the average transfer student underestimates the degree of transition.  Students who participate in T-PREP will be well versed and prepared to meet the rigors of being a Junior in the College of Engineering.   Students will become familiar with the resources available in the College of Engineering and on the Berkeley campus before they begin classes at Cal.  New transfer students will also leave T-PREP being a member of a tight-knit cohort that will allow them to immediately have established study groups and friends from the first day of classes and throughout their time at Berkeley (and beyond).

Benefits of T-PREP:

  • Study skills and time management strategies necessary for success in a rigorous engineering program
  • Hands-on experience in group study and problem solving in common first semester transfer engineering courses
  • Workshops focusing on academic and social issues common to transfer students
  • Networking with other new transfer students and experienced transfers in the College of Engineering
  • Undergraduate out-of-the-classroom learning opportunities (i.e. research, leadership development)
  • Graduate school and career preparation
  • Exposure to industry representatives providing a glimpse into industry trends
  • Guidance on establishing professional relationships with faculty

Transfer students admitted to the College of Engineering will be invited to apply to the T-PREP Program.
